SCADA | ICP DAS Products

In this article, we will briefly review products related to a DCS/SCADA system manufactured by ICP DAS. We all know that in Refineries / Petroleum / Petrochemical / Gas Stations / Electricity / Power / Factory and etc. plants there are a lot of signals and processes that need to be controlled and monitored. These plans can be divided into three categories: small, medium, large plans. The variety of ICP DAS products enables experts to develop and personalize their own specialized plans.

Definition:
"SCADA is an acronym for supervisory control and data acquisition, a computer system for gathering and analyzing real-time data. SCADA systems are used to monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining, and transportation."
A SCADA system usually consists of the main elements in the below picture:

PAC(Programmable Automation Controller):

The PAC family of ICP DAS is a modular network-based PAC with the capability of connecting I/O either through its own dual backplane bus or alternatively through remote I/O units and remote I/O modules. PAC family includes WinPAC, XPAC, LinPAC, iPAC, ViewPAC, Motion PAC and μPAC for different requirements in OS, CPU and development platform.

The XPAC is WES7/WES2009/WinCE6.0 based PACs that combine computing, I/O, and operator interface into a single unit and provide the perfect solution for integrating HMI, data acquisition and control in an individual PAC.

Hidden in narrow spaces, however, showing great capacity and existing in a wide range of applications, we are right talking about the I-7188 and μPAC-7186. These are the μPACs (micro Programmable Automation Controllers) designed and launched by ICP DAS. With fast-booting operating system MiniOS7, flexible COM port configuration and user-defined I/O pins, μPAC just meets every kind of requirement in general applications, such as data acquisition, automation systems, and remote control. Both I-7188 and μPAC-7186 series are palm-sized PACs. μPAC-7186 series are the more advanced PACs with faster CPU, 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet and lower power consumption.

RTU(Remote Terminal Unit):

RTUs are divided into two categories: Slots that can be installed directly on PACs and Modules that can be connected to the SCADA system using RS-485/ Ethernet/ FRnet/ CAN Bus connections.

In the case of ICP DAS RTUs, it should be noted that it covers a wide range of industrial communication such as CANBus CANopen DeviceNet CCON J1939 PROFIBUS HART EtherNet/IP BACnet/IP PROFINET EtherCAT M-Bus .

Here are three types of powerful ICPDAS RTUs that are widely used in large and mid-size SCADA systems: (I/O Expansion Unit)

ET-87Pn-MTCP series is a Modbus TCP I/O expansion unit to expand I-87K series I/O modules over the Ethernet for industrial monitoring and controlling applications. It offers two Ethernet switch ports for daisy-chain topology. The daisy-chain feature allows ET-87Pn to connect in series to each other or other Ethernet devices. Users can easily simplify the cabling and save installation space with the feature. Therefore, it is very easy to integrate remote I/O to customer’s applications.
